What is IOT?
IoT (Internet of Things) is next building blocks of technology in future and already arrived, enabling human and take control over data of machine to machine communication (M2M). This has opened up a new era in technical world and next big thing to cater society at all place either home or work. This empowered humans to control machines far better than ever. The applications being developed under IoT already start taking place in industries like Healthcare, Manufacturing, Telecom, Retail, Transportation, Utilities like automations required for smart cities etc.
Machine-to-machine communication (M2M) – Next Big Thing:
Devices talk to devices in M2M. Machine is an instrument, a tool. It is something which physically does something. By making machines Smart does not mean that we are referring strictly to M2M. Hence, we are talking about sensors, which are associated to machines.
A sensor reflects data through signal mechanism over a protocol say, Bluetooth. So sensor is not a machine. It does not do anything in the same sense that a machine does and it just gathers, evaluates and provides data regarding machine performance, health and maintenance schedule etc for example. The Internet of Things made possible the connection of sensors and machines. The real value added by the Internet of Things is junction of assembling data and leveraging it. All the information gathered by all the sensors hold no values practically if this data can’t be further analyzed in real time, which opens up space for its integration with data science and machine learning/NLP.
